Middle School students are offered three foreign languages:
French, German or Spanish
Foreign language classes meet every other day
Students complete Level I class in two years:
- the first half in 7th grade
- the second half in 8th grade
It is important that students and parents understand that this is a
two-year commitment
~ Foreign Language classes require serious study and homework ~
Students who complete Level I in the Middle School can go on to
Level II in 9th grade
and are then positioned to progress to the
Advanced Placement Level V class before graduation
great for college applications!
Students who do not take a Foreign Language class in the Middle School
can start Level I when they attend the High School.
Note: Foreign Language classes meet during Academic Enrichment
so students who require reading or special support for pod classes
may have a scheduling conflict.
Students learn reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Cultural elements, such as festivals and celebrations,
are an important part of the Foreign language experience:
Students from the two middle schools, Lamberton and Wilson,
get together every two years to celebrate Mardi Gras.
The next Mardi Gras celebration will be held February 24, 2009.
While the study of a foreign language does require
a commitment of time and effort
it is a great opportunity to develop useful skills
and it can be lots of fun!
