Student Rules and Regulations

A. Student Expectations

1. Be in assigned seat/area BEFORE the bell rings / class starts.

2. Follow instructions in a proper manner and time frame.

3. Respect the rights and property of others.

4. Be responsible for your actions and instructional materials

5. Be prepared with a gray/black graphite pencil, blue/black ink pen and notebook every day.

6. Shop WILL NOT be open to students prior to 1^st period.

7. The shop will be closed to all students during lunch.

B. Student Behavior

1. Attendance will be taken:

a. At the beginning of class

b. At some other undesignated time

c. At the end of class

2. Dismissal will take place from the classroom area.

a. Close all doors and windows

b. Clean tools, return tools to proper location in the shop area

c. Clean shop, classroom and locker room

d. Tool room attendant shall secure tool room

e. Clean hands

f. Remove coveralls and place them in locker and locked with lock provided by instructor

g. Be in classroom by 10:35 for AM students

h. Be in classroom by 2:40 for PM students

i. All students will leave the shop in an orderly fashion into the hall

3. Respect fellow students, teachers, instructors, and administrators

4. Instructor’s desk, computer, and file cabinets are off-limits to all students

C. Student Safety

1. Wear leather faced, hard sole work shoes in the shop area (no sneakers)

2. Wear safety eye protective glasses in the shop area at all time

POSITIVELY NO EXCEPTIONS

3. Wear appropriate work clothing in the shop area

4. No loose shoelaces or loose clothing in the shop area

5. No “horseplay” allowed. Do not disturb fellow students

6. No running in the shop

7. Keep the entire shop clean

8. Lift heavy objects properly, using your legs and not your back

9. Never work under a vehicle without frame safety stands

10. When using the hydraulic lift, make sure the vehicle is properly aligned on the lift and safety latches are used

11. Know the location of and how to use the fire extinguishers and fire blankets

12. Place creepers in an upright position when not in use

13. Discard all waste material in the proper containers

14. Report immediately any damage to tools and equipment

15. Jewelry (except studded earrings) shall be removed before entering shop area

16. Long hair should be capped or tied back so as not to present a potential work hazard

17. Do not put sharp objects, such as screwdrivers, in your pocket

18. Spilled oil, grease, or any other liquid shall be cleaned immediately

19. Never use compressed air to blow brake dust from brake lining

20. Always use the right tool for the job

21. Never operate any equipment without the proper guards in place

22. Never use any equipment without prior instruction

23. Use exhaust ventilation system on all running engines

24. Never play with chemicals or lubricants

25. Never play with electrical or air tools and equipment

26. There is ZERO tolerance for misuse of chemicals

27. There is ZERO tolerance for possession and /or use of Tobacco, Tobacco products, and Alcohol, Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia

D. Vehicle Regulations

1. A work order will be prepared before any work is performed

2. There will be no tampering of changing of:

a. Vehicle controls

b. Vehicle emissions

c. PA State Inspection requirements

3. Fender covers must be utilized at all times

4. There will be no sitting in or on vehicles during school hours

5. Exercise extreme care on all vehicles

6. All vehicles will be worked on with the understanding that at 10:30AM the work will cease

7. All vehicles will be worked on with the understanding that at 2:30PM the work will cease

8. All repair fees will be given to the customer when the vehicle keys are given to them

9. Individuals are permitted to supply their own auto parts

10. All fees are to be paid in full before a vehicle is to leave the school property

E. Consequences

1^st offense Depending on school policy

Verbal warning (Student/Teacher conference)

2^nd offense Depending on school policy

Parental contact

3^rd offense Referral to Administrative Office

F. Severe Clause

Major infractions will result in an immediate referral to the administration

G. Expect Immediate Disciplinary Action If Any Of The Following Occur

1. Any Safety Violation

2. Insubordination (Failure to follow instructions)

3. Abusive language

4. Willful destruction of any property (school or personal)

5. Leaving the shop area without permission

6. Failure to comply with tool room policies

7. Failure to complete clean-up assignments

8. Loitering in on, or around any vehicle

9. Driving any vehicle without an operator’s license

Learner’s Permits Are Not Acceptable

10. Road testing any vehicle without instructor’s permission

11. Road testing any vehicle beyond designated area

12. Performing any work without instructors approval

13. Fighting or other aggressive behavior

14. Performing any unnecessary tests while road testing a vehicle

H. Instructor’s Policy

1. Any violations of the above regulations will be handled according to the schedule of consequences. In addition, your shop instructor will take appropriate measures pertaining to Co-Op activities and /or work order issues.
