Attention: Students who are auditioning for PMEA District 7 Band There is important information about district band auditions at the following web site. Please make sure that you read and understand the following items. Questions? Please ask Mr. Rohrer or Mr. Mikesell! 1. Go to the web address above. 2. At the top of the page, click on “Festival Audition Information” 3. Scroll down to “Band/Orchestra” 4. Check the 2009-10 Solo Repertoire list to make sure that you have the correct solo for your instrument – and that you have the correct edition of the solo. If you have any questions about this, please see Mr. Rohrer or Mr. Mikesell ASAP! You must prepare the correct materials for the tryouts. 5. Please read the “Eligibility Requirements” and be sure that you are available and committed to attending the festival on February 11-13 in the event that you successfully audition into the ensemble. 6. All wind and keyboard percussion players should make sure they read and understand the “Scale Requirements.” On the “Scale Requirements” page, if you click on the name of your instrument, you will see the scales notated – and can print them for reference. It is important that you be prepared to play the scales AS WELL AS the solo. The scales should be an “easy” 30% of your total score at the auditions – because you have already been playing many of these for years! 7. Read the “Scoring Breakdown” so that you understand how your score will be calculated when you audition. 8. Read the “Solo Scoring Guide and Procedures” page that applies to your instrument. This will help you to understand how you will be scored – and what the numbers on your score card at the auditions mean. 9. If you need to leave early from the audition site (Dallastown HS) on December 5th (December 12-Bad Weather Date), a parent may come and pick you up following your auditions – but only if you have an Early Dismissal Form completed and turned in to Mr. Rohrer in advance of the auditions. This is available on the web site. 10. Practice Your Scales And Solo Daily! The students who place into district band practice their solo and scales regularly. Most of us are not able to learn our solo the week or two before the tryouts and be successful. Please understand that this is a long-term project that requires you to begin working immediately if you have not already begun.
