Carlisle at PIAA State Championships

Monday, November 4

The PA State Championship Meet was held this past weekend in Hershey. Please congratulate Emma Bateman and Maddie Kole for representing the Lady Herd and Carlisle in fine fashion. The boys' team claimed 6th place in the state which is the highest finish by Carlisle XC since the mid 1990s. Zach Brehm led the way with a 10th place finish. Following him through to complete the team scoring were Joe DeAngelo, Jon Carroll, Sam DeAngelo, and Mikey Dennison. Sophomore Matt Wisner's performance as the #6-man won the Herd the tie-breaker for the 6th place team finish.

Congratulations guys!!!

Carlisle at District III Championships

Thursday, October 24

The District III Championship Meet was held Wednesday afternoon in Hershey. On the boys side the Herd nearly knocked off heavily favored Lower Dauphin and had to settle for 2nd place in District III. The Falcons are ranked 4th in the state and held off the charging Herd 132-138. The boys were led by Individual runner-up Zach Brehm and a 2nd District medalist in Jon Carroll who claimed 10th. Rounding out the team scorers were Joe DeAngelo, Matt Wisner, and Mikey Dennison.

The Lady Herd placed 6th with 200 points, only 13 points out of 4th and a trip to states themselves. No team beat the Lady Herd at the 5, 6, or 7 spot and with no graduating seniors, the future is very bright! The team pack of: Hailey West, Leanza Lopez, Caitlyn Padgett, Maddie Shultes and Emily Smeltz did a great job, and leading the way for the girls were individual state qualifiers: Emma Bateman and Maddie Kole.

Good luck to these two girls and the boys' team at states next Saturday!

Carlisle at Mid-Penn Conference Championships

Monday, October 14

The Mid-Penn Cross Country Championship Meet was held Saturday and the teams from Carlisle fared very well. On the boys side the Herd placed 2nd only to State College and were led by 5 boys earning all-Conference medals: Zach Brehm, Jon Carroll, Joe DeAngelo, Sam DeAngelo, and Matt Wisner. Not surprisingly, State College was up for the meet, they have 3 weeks until States and can cruise through their District VI meet to qualify. The other big Mid-Penn schools have to go after each other when it counts at the District III meet ten days from now on Wednesday the 23rd. Going into Mid-Penns Lower Dauphin and Red Land were ranked 4th and 8th in the state respectively. This performance from the Herd will reshuffle the State top-10 rankings as we move up from our previous 9th place position!

The Lady Herd placed 4th and were led by 5 underclassmen also earning All-Conference honors: Emma Bateman, Caitlyn Padgett, Leanza Lopez, Maddie Kole, and Hailey West. Our girls have begun making huge strides in closing up the gaps to the top teams in District III. Two weeks ago at our big home Invitational, Chambersburg put their #6 girl with our #3. Saturday our #5 runner beat their #5. Two weeks ago Cumberland Valley put their #6 girl with our 4th. Saturday, we got 5 girls in front of their 4th...we have ten more days to keep closing the gaps!

In the JV races, Carlisle's boys placed 2nd behind only State College. Mikey Dennison ran away with the meet and would have been an all-Conference medalist had he run that time in the varsity race. Brandin Dyche claimed second place overall and freshman Max Fiorintino came in 9th overall. The girls' JV team, for the first time in the history of the event, won the Tim Cook Memorial JV race in convincing fashion placing 4 girls in the top 10: Teodora Von Frenckell, Julia Ledgett, Cami Chirico, and Emily Skovira. Anja Prandtner sprinted home to 15th place to round out the team scoring as the girls won 43-63 over 2nd place State College.

We now look forward the District III Championships that will be held Wednesday, October 23rd.

Carlisle at Cumberland County Championships

Monday, October 7

The Cumberland County Championships were held in Mechanicsburg and were a nice low-key meet on a very hot and humid day that ended up forcing the cancellation of the big Paul Short meet in Lehigh later the same day. On the boys' side the Herd was coming off a big duel with District favorite Lower Dauphin a few days ago so we rested a couple guys who coach felt needed it. Even still the boys' finished 2nd only to Red Land. Our 4th-9th runners all medaled and finished in the top-20 with a 38 second spread from Sam DeAngelo back to Brandin Dyche who came in 17:40.

The JV boys rolled over everyone winning the meet with only 19 points. If all the other schools had joined together against Carlisle, we still would have won. The boys claimed 4 of the top 5 spots led by meet winner Tyler Chandler as he gave himself a birthday present. Freshman AJ Delorenzo was runner up also running under 19 minutes. The team scoring was completed by Ben Hietsch, Turner Blashford, and Sam Blumenthal who finished 4th, 5th, and 7th respectively.

The Lady Herd won the County meet in convicing fashion over a solid team from Red Land by a score of 35-64. The ladies were lead by a 2-3 finish from Caitlyn Padgett and Emma Bateman. Maddie Kole sprinted in for 6th, while the rest of the pack claimed County medals as well.

The JV girls won in even more convining fashion than the boys by taking the top 5 places and scoring a perfect 15 points. Lauren Clay, Emily Smeltz and Julia Ledgett went 1-2-3 with times that would have been fast enough to have medaled in the varsity race! Teodora Von Frenckell and Cami Chirico rounded out the perfect team score.

Carlisle at Lower Dauphin

Wednesday, October 2

Coming off a big weekend hosting our huge Carlisle Invitational the teams travelled to Lower Dauphin for a friendly non-league meet to close out the dual meet season. The boys race was a battle of champions, Carlisle the Commonwealth winners this year and the Falcons had won the Keystone division of the Mid-Penn. Both teams were undefeated through their division dual meet schedule and the Falcons are currently ranked 4th in the State. They held their ground on their Senior night as many of their top runners were running on their home course for the last time. The Falcons held off the Herd 26-31. Zach Brehm won the battle out front and ran a new course record in 15:46. In fact, the next two LD boys also ran under the previous course record as they went 15:50 and 16:11. LD took 4th and 5th though too before the Herd packed in from 6th to 11th places which was just not quite enough.

The Lady Herd took down a formidable opponent as the Lady Falcons got up for the meet and ran without a doubt their best race of the season. We gave up the win to a really top notch runner from LD, then our trio of sophomores raced tactically as Caitlyn Padgett, Emma Bateman and Maddie Kole took the next 3 places. Maddie Shultes came up big with a 6th place finish that locked up the meet win 24-32.

Carlisle at Carlisle Invitational

Monday, September 30

The Thundering Herd Cross-Country teams hosted one of the largest Cross Country Invitationals on the East Coast this past Saturday. Nearly 100 total teams were represented and travelled in from New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia to compete in the prestigious PUMA Challenge races. The boys' team title was won by the defending PA State Champions from West Chester Henderson who out-dueled another nationally ranked team in Tatnall from Delaware. Carlisle's boys made a statement of their own though following individual champion Zach Brehm to a 5th place podium finish. Zach set a new Carlisle school record covering the 3.1 mile course in 15 minutes and 28 seconds. Jon Carroll was the second Carlisle finisher and also a medalist. The next three to complete the team scoring were Joe DeAngelo, Matt Wisner and Sam DeAngelo who all ran under 17 minutes. With their performance Saturday the Herd will likely find themselves in the top-10 PA team ran kings for the first time next week.

The Lady Herd turned in some top-notch performances of their own. The girls placed 12th overall and were the 6th Pennsylvania team. They were lead by sophomore Caitlyn Padgett who ran 19:37 and collected the only medal for the Lady Herd in this big meet. Caitlyn's time is the fastest Invitational time ever run by a Carlisle sophomore! The next 4 girls were all under 21minutes and also all underclassmen so the future is very bright: Emma Bateman, Maddie Kole, Hailey West, and Leanza Lopez.

The girls JV team also placed 4th overall and were the #1 PA team following Padua Academy of Delaware, James Robinson of Virginia, and Cornwall from New York. Three of our freshmen girls picked up medals: Emily Smeltz, Lauren Clay and Julia Ledgett-Great job girls!

Carlisle vs. Central Dauphin

Wednesday, September 25

The varsity Cross-Country teams hosted the teams from Central Dauphin yesterday in their final home dual meet of the season. The Lady Herd rolled over the Lady Rams by a score of 15-53. For some perspective that was nearly the worst score possible in this sport which is 15-55. Leading the way for the girls and sweeping the top 6 places were Hailey West, Maddie Kole, Caitlyn Padgett, Emma Bateman, Maddie Shultes, and Leanza Lopez. The girls are now 4-2 on the season and finish in 2nd place in the Commonwealth.

On the boys side the Rams tried to put up a fight, but were quickly overwhelmed by the Thundering Herd as they steamrolled their way to their first Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division title since 2003. The boys took 10 of the top 12 places in the race and were lead by Zach Brehm, Jon Carroll, Matt Wisner, Joe DeAngelo, Jarrett Cavanagh, Jose Aguilar, Sam DeAngelo, Mikey Dennison, Sean Collins, and Brandin Dyche. The final score was 19-47. The Herd finishes the Commonwealth schedule undefeated at 6-0 and looks forward to hosting the Carlisle Invitational this Saturday. There will be nearly 100 schools from 7 states competing here along with several Nationally ranked teams and Individuals, so come on out and support the team as they move into Championship season.

Carlisle at Ben Bloser Big Spring Invitational

Monday, September 23

The Thundering Herd held out several of their top boys and girls from this local Invitational and gave some of their teammates a chance to run at the front. The Ladies were led by a trio of freshmen: Lauren Clay, Julia Ledgett, and Emily Smeltz who all placed in the top 50 of the varsity race. The boys were led by Sam DeAngelo and Sean Collins. The teams return to action on Tuesday the 24th as the boys look to wrap up their first Commonwealth Division Title in ten years.

Carlisle at Cumberland Valley/Mifflin County

Wednesday, September 18

The varsity Cross-Country teams headed up the road to take on the Eagles of Cumberland Valley yesterday. The defending District III champions narrowly held off the Lady Herd by a score of only 26-29. Mifflin County was also at the meet and our girls trounced the Huskies by a score of 15-48. Leading the way for the girls were Maddie Kole, Caitlyn Padgett, Emma Bateman, Maddie Shultes, and Leanza Lopez. The girls are 3-2 on the season.

On the boys side it was a different story. The Thundering Herd rolled over the defending District III Champions in convincing fashion with Zach Brehm, Jon Carroll, and Joe DeAngelo sweeping the top 3 places. Four more boys rolled in to displace CV's #5 runner and factor into the team scoring: Jarrett Cavanagh, Matt Wisner, Jose Aguilar, and Mikey Dennison. The final score was 21-36 as the Herd now sits as the only undefeated team in the Commonwealth. Come on out next Tuesday to our last home meet and watch the Herd crush Central Dauphin and collect their first Commonwealth Division title since 2003! The Boys are 5-0 on the season.

Carlisle at Spiked Shoe Invitational

Monday, September 16

The varsity Cross-Country teams travelled to Penn State University over the weekend and the Thundering Herd placed 2nd of 24 teams on the boys' side. Zach Brehm led the way winning the Invitational in a time of 15:46. Rounding out the team scoring and placing in the top 30 were Jon Carroll, Joe DeAngelo, Matt Wisner, Jarrett Cavanagh, and Jose Aguilar. The Lady Herd placed 7th at the meet and were lead by Maddie Kole. Girls rounding out the top-5 were Caitlyn Padgett, Emma Bateman, Maddie Shultes, and Leanza Lopez.

Carlisle at Chambersburg

Wednesday, September 11

The Thundering Herd Cross Country team travelled to Chambersburg yesterday and defeated the Trojan boys 23-38. The boys took 3 of the top 4 spots and had 8 boys finish before the Trojans' 4th runner. Leading the way to victory was Zach Brehm who won the race. Rounding out the team scoring were Jon Carroll, Joe DeAngelo, Jose Aguilar, and Jarrett Cavanagh. The boys team is now 3-0 on the season and the only undefeated team remaining in the Commonwealth. The Division crown is now ours to lose.

The Lady Herd ran into the top girls' team in District III. The Lady Trojans' quartet of 4 District Medalists were too much for our young girls' team as the Herd fell 21-40. Only our top 3 were able to break into the Trojans' top 8 and affect the team scoring, three underclassmen: Maddie Kole, Caitlyn Padgett, and Maddie Shultes. This was the Lady Herd's first loss on the season and our record now stands at 2-1.

Carlisle vs. State College/CD East

Wednesday, September 4

The Thundering Herd Cross Country team knocked off the Commonwealth favored Little Lions of State College yesterday in commanding fashion 24-31. The Herd beat State College by besting them at each of the top 5 match-ups. Leading the way for the boys was race winner Zach Brehm who broke the State College leader over the last mile. He was followed closely by Jon Carroll and Joe DeAngelo who claimed 3rd and 4th places. Rounding out the team scoring were Matt Wisner in 7th and Jarrett Cavanagh taking 9th place.

The girls from State College held out some of their top girls and paid for it taking the worst possible loss that can be delivered in the sport 15-55. The Lady Herd took the top 7 places in the meet running as a pack. Leading the way were Maddie Kole, Caitlyn Padgett, Maddie Shultes, Emma Bateman, Hailey West, Leanza Lopez, and Emily Skovira.
