Child Development

This course focuses on the process of human growth and development from the prenatal period through the ages and stages of six years old. The changing role of the family will be explored as it impacts on children and parenting practices. Through this course of study it is hoped that students will be better prepared for the decision-making process in marriage, parenthood and/or as a caregiver of young children.

Units on conception, proper prenatal care, stages of prenatal development, and the birth process will be covered as well as an in depth discussion of appropriate parenting techniques.  Theories of child development will be explored and students will participate in practical experiences observing and working with young children in a child care setting.
