Students from the Wilson Middle School 8th Grade Green Technology class partnered with the Cumberland County Conservation District recently to produce 10 high quality rain barrels.  CCCD staff member Lori Glace worked with Technology Education teacher Stephen Hvizdos and his students on this project.

Students had to wash out and clean the barrels, measure and drill holes, assemble plumbing fixtures, and apply finishing touches such as an overflow tube.  Hands on Learning was combined with discussions on water conservation, practical applications for rain barrels, and other ways students can join the “Green Movement”.

For more information or to purchase one of these rain barrels, please e-mail Mr. Hvizdos at [email protected].

Each barrel comes with brass fittings, mosquito and debris netting, and a flexible downspout extension.  The cost is $55 and all proceeds benefit the Wilson Middle School Parent Advisory Council.
