Kevin Wagner Recognized by VFW
Kevin Wagner was one of three teachers in the nation to be recognized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. in the summer of 2019 for their "outstanding commitment to teach Americanism and patriotism to their students.”

Wagner, who teaches AP US History and AP Research, was awarded the VFW’s 2019 Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award.

Wagner was chosen for his dedication to honoring the memory of America’s veterans through his “Silent Heroes” project, where students preserve the legacy of a local World War II veteran killed at Normandy by creating a webpage that explores the veteran’s life and service.

The project expanded last year to identify local Vietnam War veterans, which led to the construction of a Vietnam Wall of Honor. The wall displays the names of more than 213 veterans and flag cases honoring 10 former students killed during the war.

VFW Post 477 and its Auxiliary in Carlisle sponsored Wagner.
