Academic Decathlon
This past weekend, we competed at the state finals in Hershey, where our team earned 12 individual medals and finished 5th in the state (tying our highest placement ever). And for the first time in our 12 years of participating, we have students who have advanced to nationals. Four of them (JT Rose, Naomi Waybright, Sophie Haque, and Owen Mains) qualified as individuals for online nationals, and two of them (Luke Frazier and Keegan Spencer) earned invites to the in-person championship in Anaheim, California next month! These kids have studied over 1,000 pages of dense curriculum related to this year’s over-arching theme (The Roaring 20’s), each of them competing in literature, math, science, social science, economics, art history, and music in addition to writing essays, getting interviewed, and giving both prepared and impromptu speeches.
