COVID-19 Protocols for Students and Families

Symptoms of COVID

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

 Student Shows Symptoms of COVID at Home

  • Student should stay home, be seen by healthcare provider, and get tested for COVID.
  • CASD does accept COVID -19 home test results. Parent/Guardian should take a picture of the test results, with the student’s name written on the test, and email to the school nurse.
  • If family opts not to conduct a COVID test, students may be required to stay home for 5 days, following the onset of symptoms.
  • It is recommended that students wear a mask for an additional 5 days.
  • This applies regardless of vaccination status.
  • Students need to be fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of medications such as ibuprofen and Tylenol, prior to returning to school, regardless of COVID test results.

Student Shows Symptoms of COVID at School

  • Parent must pick up student as soon as possible.
  • Student should stay home, be seen by healthcare provider, and get tested for COVID.
  • If family opts not to conduct a COVID test, students may be required to stay home for 5 days, following the onset of symptoms.
  • It is recommended that students wear a mask for an additional 5 days.
  • This applies regardless of vaccination status.

 Student Tests Positive for COVID

  • Student must stay home.
  • Family should contact the school nurse.

Parent Tests Positive for COVID

  • Student may return to school unless they are showing symptoms.
    • It is recommended that the student wear a mask for 10 days.
  • Should the student become symptomatic, stay home and notify health care provider and school nurse.
Student is a Close Contact of Someone Who Tested Positive for COVID
  • Student may return to school unless they are showing symptoms.
    • It is recommended that the student wear a mask for 10 days.
  • Should the student become symptomatic, stay home and notify health care provider and school nurse.

Student is Awaiting COVID Test Results

  • Student must remain at home until results are received.

 Student Absences – Work Completion (COVID related)

  • At the secondary level, each teacher should utilize a Schoology “absent” folder to post a simple, bulleted list of key information which may include:
    • a summary of that day’s activities
    • upcoming due dates
    • relevant readings, links, videos, etc.
    • key activities or assignments that the student should complete (if able)
  • At the elementary level, each teacher may utilize Seesaw, or may communicate individually with students/families
    • It is not the expectation that the teacher post an entire “lesson”
  • Staff should follow absence, missed work, and make-up work procedures in student or building handbooks (Unless individual arrangements are made with students).
Additional School Protocols and Practices

Masks / Face Shields

  • Masks are optional for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Disposable masks are available at all buildings.

Temperature Checks

  • Students and Staff – Will not receive temperature checks daily.
  • Visitors and Guests – Will not receive temperature checks.

Lunch/Cafeteria

  • Students will eat in the cafeteria.
  • Individual buildings will establish lunch procedures, as practical.

Events / Activities / Athletics

  • Indoor events and activities – to include orientations, assemblies, and extracurricular activities are permitted.
  • Outdoor events and activities are permitted.
  • Concession stands are permitted to serve guests.
    •  Masking is optional for athletes, performers, and attendees.  

 Visitors and Guests

  • Visitors and guests may return / visit schools as needed during school hours (please report to the main office of the building your attending).
