Mr. Wagner has been a member of the Carlisle High School faculty since 1997. He is beginning his 25th year of teaching. Mr. Wagner has served as Social Studies Program Supervisor, 6-12 for the past 17 years. He has taught in the following areas of social studies: AP Seminar, AP Research, Modern European History, Psychology, U.S. Civics and AP U.S. History. Currently he teaches two sections of AP United States History and one section of AP Seminar.

Mr. Wagner earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Messiah College in Social Studies Certification with an emphasis in U.S. History. He has also earned a Master's Degree in History and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy at Shippensburg University. He was granted supervisory certification in the spring of 2005.

In the summer of 2019 Mr. Wagner was honored by the VFW with the National Teacher of the Year Award.  In 2018, Mr. Wagner was recognized with the NCSS Chirsta McAuliffe "Reach for the Stars" Award for his work in creating the "Silent Heroes" project with the AP U.S. History classes. He has also been awarded the "Harry J. Carman" Award (2017) by MSCSS for outstanding achievement in social studies research, the State Farm "Teacher as Hero" Award (2017) for exceptional education leadership, and the AHA "Beveridge Family Teaching" Award (2016) for innovative teaching in social studies.

The 2014 year was a very exciting time for Mr. Wagner.  In February of 2014 he was the recipient of the Thomas W. Holtzman, Jr. Educational Leadership Award.  In May of 2014 he was named the Patricia Behring PA Teacher of the Year by the National History Day organization.  And in October of 2014 Mr. Wagner was named the Gilder-Lehrman PA State History Teacher of the Year. 

He has been selected as a member of Who's Who of American High School Teachers for fourteen years. In 2001 he was selected by his students for and became a finalist in the Walt Disney World's Outstanding Teacher competition. In 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Mr. Wagner received the Nobel Educator of Distinction award for his use of creative lesson design. In 2010 and 2012 Mr. Wagner was selected as a Gilder-Lehrman scholar.  In 2011 he was selected as a Normandy Scholar and took part in the first-ever Normandy Institute: Sacrifice for Freedom, traveling throughout Normandy, France in an intense 10-day experience of the D-Day invasion of 1944.  In 2012, Mr. Wagner was selected as a guest speaker for the Advanced Placement Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida presenting "Incorporating National History Day in AP History."  And recently, he was selected to be a guest speaker at the American Historical Association's annual conference in New Orleans in January 2013.  In the summer of 2013 he was selected as one of twelve teachers nationally to participate in a NHD Leadership Academy, spending 12 days in China.  In 2015 he was selected along with 24 other teachers to do a three-week in-depth study of the Holocaust traveling throughout Germany and Poland. He has also served on numerous educator panels helping to develop teachings aides and tools for other educators, including Ford's Theatre, Mt. Vernon and the National Endowment for the Humanities.  This past summer he was the lead teacher for the NHD Normandy Scholars: Sacrifice for Freedom program, leading 15 teachers and 15 students on an in-depth tour of WWII in Normandy, France. He has had five published works during his career.  Mr. Wagner is also the adviser to the Model United Nations club at Carlisle High School, which he considers to be one of his most rewarding tasks at CHS.

In his spare time Mr. Wagner enjoys reading about United States history, touring battlefields, visiting presidential homes around the country and singing with select choirs. He is a member of the National Council for Social Studies, the National Council for History Education, PA Council for Social Studies, the Middle States Council for Social Studies, the International Model United Nations Association, and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, as well as volunteers his time at the Cumberland County Historical Society when available.   He serves as a board member for the PA Council for Social Studies, the Middle States Council for Social Studies, and as a master teacher for the National Council for History Education.  He is a member of the advisory council for Mount Vernon and is a member of the Pennsylvania Teacher Advisory Committee.  He has served on the Cumberland County 150th Civil War Committee to help develop programs for the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
