Coach Bios

Ed Boardman is entering his 12th year as the Head Coach for Boys and Girls Cross-Country at Carlisle High School. He took over the program in the late summer of 2006 and worked very hard to fix a program that was in freefall over the previous 2 seasons.

He spent the 4 years prior as the long distance coach at Shippensburg University during Spring Track seasons. Originally from Chambersburg, he was a team captain of both cross-country (1995) and track (1996) while leading his team to a Mid-Penn Conference Track & Field Championship. He was a top five runner on one of the finest teams in school history in 1994 when the Trojans were 7th at States running sub-17min on multiple occasions.

He attended SHIP and was a varsity athlete throughout his four years of undergraduate study and served as a captain for both the cross country and track teams for the 1999-2000 season. During his four seasons of coaching at the collegiate level after graduation, his athletes claimed 22 PSAC places, including 5 individual championships. He has coached one All-American (Kelly Stewart's 35:34 in the 10k placed 4th at NCAAs in 2004) and one Academic All-American.

The highlight of his first year at Carlisle High School was helping Marie Lamparter to an 8th place finish at the Pennsylvania State Meet(2006), which is still the highest individual finish ever by a Carlisle girl in Cross-country. In 2008 he was proud to coach his first individual District III Champion: Kyle Hurston. 2013 was marked by Carlisle XC's first Mid-Penn title since the 1990s as that boys' team went on to place 6th at the PIAA Championships led by Zach Brehm. In 2014, it was the Lady Herd who finally brought home an elusive District III Championship to Carlisle for the first time this millennium. Over the past three years only 5 schools in Pennsylvania have qualified both boys and girls XC teams to the State Finals in PA's largest classification all three years; Carlisle is one of them, AND also the smallest public school to do so!

This past year of 2016 re-wrote the record books as the Carlisle Boys XC team made history with a 2nd place podium finish at States for the first time in school history. The year was highlighted by our first individual XC State Champion, Noah Affolder, and of course Mid-Penn and District III team titles in the process.

Also the Head Coach for the Boys' and Girls' Track and Field teams here in Carlisle, Boardman's programs have captured 7 District III Team Championships since 2011!

Always looking to the future, the past decade has been fantastic, but Boardman sees this Fall of 2017 as a springboard to even more by 2018.

He works full-time for the Department of Defense in Mechanicsburg, Pa., where he is employed as a Financial Management Analyst. He holds a Master's of Business Administration from Shippensburg University and lives with his family in Shippensburg.

Jeff Lloyd began coaching Carlisle High School Cross Country in 2001. He loves sharing the experience of the great sport of running with others who also enjoy it!
